APMI Kaplan forgot about my last paper

APMI Kaplan screwed up yet again on 25th April, which was our last paper for trimester 2. We were suppose to sit for our Operating Systems papers but we almost couldn't do so because they have forgotten to arrange for a room for us.

Do APMI Kaplan hate the BIS1 cohort that much ?

Hi, Its me again. If i haven paid my first installment, i would've leave for another school already. But i do hope things do get better... So why not think at the good side when you're left with another 2 trimester.

But anyway i have enrolled to the BIS2, this batch if i'm nt wrong there are 24ppl. APMI would need to be more assertive in handling the large crowd. If things really turn out to what u hav said, i might really consider a contingency plan...

Anyway I'm juz back from the orientation, evthing look ok for the time being... But preferably if not for the completion of degree in 16mths, i will take UNISIM instead.

So hope to see u around in Kaplan and do give me any senior guidance... Thank u. Cheers!

Hilo!

I'm one of Jiak Khang's class mate! Actually yeah we are very approachable people so do come to us if you need any help (but i doubt the school would want you guys to know us...) Preferably if you can let us know your contact.. it will be good though...

We are not trying to make things difficult here for everyone. Just wanted things to be done smoothly so that we can study peacefully and complete this degree happily.

Do come to us if you have any problems ba.. we will be very glad to help.

As for the orientation... eh seriously its just nice nice to show nia ... not very impressive after that de! but yeah i must tell you that you have one of the nicest lecturers ever if you are taking ICT 209. :P (I AM SERIOUS!)

Hi, I am JK's classmate. Well I can say that their orientation is impressive, but soon after that you will start to see things. What I can say is that the University is providing us their fullest support, but along the channel things happened.

I could say its realli a tough course as I was exempted with a fair bit of exemptions. Managing 1 and 2 modules in my first 2 trimesters. Its getting harder each time.

Some basic background, we started off with 15 ppl, now left with 9 only. Well, this is not to scare you off but a stats our class only. Probably it doesnt represent anything.

Hope to see you guys around. We starting our lessons next week on the 5th. - IT, BIS1

Jia Khang's classmate here. This is a very tough course, you can expect to sleep at 2am everyday.

Yes, it quite true that they were hiding something. But its too late for me. The money had been paid, and that its. I have to put in effort to attempt first, before judging anything. I've no exemptions, so should be quite tough... Thks 'JK' anyway for his daring posting.

If time could turn back and i saw JK's blog earlier, i would have chooses UNISIM. Although not that establish but they split their course deliver of 18 modules in 3 years.

One thing he pointed out correctly is that "This course has 12 subjects, and is spread over 3 years in Australia. However, the APMI version is 16 months. That is a difference of 14 months." If the course material is not reduced, then that is really something disastrous. Think of a 24 ppl strong cohort...

Can see from the 1st batch, 13 dropped till 9. It definately something that they wouldn't want the 2nd batch to know.

Sweating...

Hi J,

Well, yup since you have paid for it then do well for it ba. :)

Actually the subject matter wise from Murdoch is pretty good, but however its all those administrative issues that you see that actually bothers all of us alot.

Course work is definitely gonna be very siong and so we wish you good luck. I have gone through trimester 1 without any exemptions so I know how tough it was.

Do let us know if you guys need any help or advice. We will be please to help you guys out.

Regards
ter

I will advice BIS2 to prepare to convert your 3 subjects trimester to 2 subjects to ease your workload. It's unlikely that Murdoch will change their material to suit us. You can still defer a subject a few weeks after the trimester starts, so try it out first and make a change when it gets too demanding. If you work on 2 subjects per trimester, you will complete your degree in 2 years, so it's not that bad, considering that you are less likely to be burnt out or repeat any subject.

Hi JK, seem like what you are hinting is coming true. They have postpone the first class to 6 May, which was expected to start on 5 May. When i have made all the arrangements to start the first class, they suddenly call me and said something occurs. But fyi, do you ever have class in Les Meridan b4? My class venue will be there for the next two lesson. If I'm not wrong, C++ is a lab lesson, to hold in a hotel is quite weird. Doesnt them need a PC or wat?
Speechless...

Unknown said...

That's new. Let us know what happened and their explanation for this weird arrangement !

Terence said...

Hi 'J',

Haha well like what i had said in my blog.. I think lah that they had this last minute arrange and can't find a classroom to fit your class size so had to book one hotel function room or something lor.. haha and labs.. eh we didn't really do any labs.. mostly done on our own.

The reason that they provided is " I did not realize the timetable you have on has was not the revised one." I did ask them whether there is insufficient class room, they replied,"Its sufficient." By the way, our units are not registered yet in the Murdoch student portal, so unable to access any powerpoint slides or document, then dr loh have to manually create a yahoo group for us to download them...

Wah I feel so cheated. I got only 2 exemptions! I don't mind if they give me more now. Can save more time and money

To the previous commenter :

I can't really comment on the course to opt for since I got no idea what's the course content like and I am not in the same industry.

To the previous previous commenter :
Most of the BIS1 student are already in the IT industry and planned to use the degree to further their career.

The main advantages of getting the degree is to get into the interview that you want, have a higher basic pay, and remove the invisible pay ceiling imposed on diploma holders.

Hi all,

I'm from the class in Dip IT from kaplan. We are graduating next month and naturally, our dip leads to the BIS intake 4 batch.

I am still contemplating on signing up for the degree program after reading JK's post.

Have you guys graduated and how is the recognition of the degree? Does it aids in helping you to get pay increment or better jobs?

Is the course really that tough? And is the pace manageable since they squeeze everything into 16 months?
Most importantly, is it worth put our $20K++ on this course?

I am not really sure if I meet the requirement to take up other degree at SIM (UOW) or UNISIM with the dip from kaplan. I do have other pro cert and 6 yrs of IT exp.

I would appreciate that if you guys could provide me with any info that you think that may be useful to me. Thanks in advance guys!

This very much depends on whether you working in the public or private sector. As far as I can remember, this degree is not acclaimed, meaning it is not "recognize" by the public sector.

However, in the private sector, it is good enough to remove our invisible pay ceiling and earn yourself a chance to get into the interview.

So far, with the exception of the programming modules, the modules that I took are applicable in my area of work as a system administrator. As far as pay raise goes, it's differs greatly in our batch.

I have used the degree to break the poly diploma's glass ceiling and got a significant pay raise during this recession. Not bad I reckon.

Once you get through the middle, everything will feel much easier.

Thanks a lot for the clarification, JK.
While still on the lookout for other degree program available, I will still consider kaplan as one of the choice.
My job capacity is the same as yours. Likely hood that I will not work in a public sector.
My programming is not that good, hope will be able to make to through the course.
Btw, after the "Malar Incident", she has been using IDE instead of notepad for our Java class. But still, many of us could not understand her lesson...:(

Malar is still around ?????

Yes, She is!
Hope she will not be the lecturer in my degree program.
